Case studies
Here’s some information about people we’ve helped to deal with their
money and debt problems.
Ms E, a single parent who had stopped working was struggling to repay
essential debts of nearly £3,000. She also owed £25,000 in non priority
debt which was mostly her student loan. She claimed Income Support and
Housing Benefit was due to be assessed. She faced losing her home as
her landlord planned to evict her. A Money Adviser arranged for Housing
Benefit to be paid and backdated, and persuaded her landlord not to
evict her. Ms E is now gradually repaying the arrears and other debts.
Miss
Cooper, a single person was unable to work due to fibromyalgia. She
was registered as disabled and claimed Incapacity Benefit and Disability
Living Allowance. She suffered from depression which was made worse
because of her debt problems. A Money Adviser helped her to repay the
priority debts of rent, council tax and a social fund loan. A successful
Trust Fund application resulted in £504.06 being repaid to clear her
water debt. She was helped to negotiate with non priority creditors
to pay a token £1 per month.
